Laxton received HACCA’s Community Recognition Award for establishing the TLC Center three years ago. She started the center, which provides food, clothing and life’s necessities to the less fortunate in the area. The TLC Center grew so rapidly, Laxton relocated to it’s third home in 2009, this one in the Holmen Square Mall.

In December, Laxton and others started a monthly community dinner that was attended by 40 at the first dinner to 80 at the next.
She also established an annual auction from which she shares a portion of the proceeds with other area organizations including the Holmen Area Partnership for Youth.
“This person is an excellent example of how with, determination and fortitude, hard work and a strong will, adversity can be overcome,” said HACCA President Roxanne Reynolds. “Her energy is boundless, her heart is all encompassing.”
HACCA also recognized Lisa Kind with the President’s Award for her involvement in putting on the Yes, Holmen event.
“This year the President’s Award goes to a member who never got too involved in our organization,” Reynolds said of Kind, “that is until she saw a need and took up the challenge. Not only was this need a challenge, it is one of the biggest, most important aspects of HACCA.”
Vice President-elect Barry Ploessl announced a new HACCA campaign promoting doing business with local establishments. As part of the new campaign, signs will be posted saying “Shop Holmen! Support the businesses that support your hometown!”
